Ifokanbale Project

Community mental wellness for older adults

The Ifọkanbàlẹ Project focuses on supporting emotional wellbeing among older adults within communities.

The Yoruba word Ifọkanbàlẹ means peace of mind, calmness, and emotional balance—values that many people seek as they grow older but often struggle to maintain due to life’s challenges.

Many older adults experience emotional stress, loneliness, unresolved trauma, grief, and health-related anxieties but rarely have access to safe spaces where these issues can be discussed openly.

The Ifọkanbàlẹ Project brings mental health conversations directly into communities through outreach sessions, discussions, and support programs.

These community visits aim to:

  • Increase awareness about emotional wellbeing
  • Encourage open conversations about mental health
  • Reduce stigma surrounding mental health discussions
  • Provide practical tools for managing emotional stress
  • Connect individuals with available support resources

By meeting people within their own communities, the project ensures that emotional wellness education becomes accessible, relatable, and culturally sensitive.
